Purpose
My approach to ceramics is one of questioning assumptions of purpose, what we leave for future generations, and an exploration of a new medium for myself. Ceramics is a practice that brings me out of abstraction and back into my body, becoming aware of the opportunities and limitations I have. It’s rewarding to experience new ways of using my body in creation.
Beyond that, ceramics allows me to explore the role of form in design and it’s impact on our daily life. How form can be open-ended, adaptable, and more humane. A bowl that has uses beyond it’s primary purpose, growth and evolution in a medium that lasts centuries.
Ceramics has incredible endurance, outlasting civilizations, leading me to questions about legacy. About what we leave behind, and what of our lives is truly tangible.
